We Have Done Our Duty

We did our duty
We went out with our children
To gather mushrooms in the forest
Which we planted ourselves when we were children.
當我們與我們的孩子
在森林去採收
由我們年幼時所親手種植的蘑菇
我們盡職了

We learned the names of wildflowers
Whose aroma was
Like blood spilled in vain.
We laid a big love on small bodies,
We stood enlarged amd shrunken in turn,
In the eyes of the holder of the binoculars,
Divine and mad.
我們學會了那些味道像是不會流動的血液的野花名
我們在小小的軀體上放置這偌大的愛
我們逐次的處於縮放之間
但在儀器輔助的眼睛底下
卻是既完美又瘋狂

And in the war of the sons of light and the sons of darkness
We loved the good and soothing darkness
And hated the painful light.
We did our duty,
We loved our children
More than our homeland,
We dug all the wells into the earth
And now we dig into the space of skies,
Well after well,with no beginning,no end.
在光明之子與黑暗之子的戰爭中
我們喜愛的是美好而平靜的黑夜
而痛恨令人痛苦的光晝
當我們愛自己的孩子勝過自己的祖國
我們就盡責了

We did our duty,
The words you shall remember we changed to we will forget
As they change the bus schedule
when the direction of the route changes,
or as they change the plaques
of Dew And Showers and He who brings Rain in the synagogue 
When the seasons change.
當季節遞嬗
當公車的時刻與路線改變，
或是換下了猶太教堂中的Dew And Showers and He who brings Rain 
將原本應該牢記的改為將來我們會遺忘
我們就盡責了

We did our duty,
We arranged our lives in flowerbeds and shadows
And straight paths,pleasant for walking,
Like the garden of a mental hospital. 
當我們將我們的生命侷限在花圃與陰影中
就像在精神病院中的花園裡
供愉悅漫步的筆直路徑一般
我們盡責了

Our despair is domesticated and gives us peace,
Only the hopes have remained,
Wild hopes,their screams
Shatter the night and rip up the day.
只有在希望持續的情況下
我們的失望就會被安撫
也給我們平靜
失控的期待和他們的尖叫
會粉碎與撕裂夜晚與白天


We did our duty.
We will like people entering a moviehouse,
Passing by  those coming out,red-faced
Or pale,crying quietly or laughing aloud,
And they never without a second glance,without
Turning back,into the light and the dark and the light.
We have done our duty.
當我們就像一般人進入電影院
穿梭在紅潤或蒼白的面容，輕聲哭泣或開懷大笑之中
他們也不會再看第二眼，也不會回頭
在黑暗與白日的交錯
